For fifty – five years now Senior High Technical School in Zenica has been educating students for different occupations in the field of technics, training them to work in economy or go on with their education at colleges and universities.
The times have been changing looking for new methods, approaches and contents for new generations but the main school’s aim was preserved: competence in the field of profession and universal human values – in pedagogical sense.
There are no original acts concering its establishment but on the bases of previous written documents about it and the work of other secondary schools in Zenica it can be said that our school was opened in 1949 , when the institution Workers Technical School of 'Zenica' of steel factory in Zenica was established. The school changed its name in 1952 and was named Secondary Technical School '12 th April ' . Since 1964 it has been named Technical school 'Đuro Salaj ‘ and there were many departments such as metallurgic, chemical , electro, mechanical and architectural and mining departments were added afterwards. In 1977 during the implementation of secondary's education reform workers’ organisation Technical School Center was formed. It has educated students in different professions and qualifications ( III and IV degree of edu-cation ) .
In the period of war from 1992 till 1995 na-mes of some schools in Technical School Center had been changed . In 1998 after the new law was brought, City Council Zenica has made the decision about the establishment of TECHNICAL SCHOOL in Zenica that successfully continues tradition in technical education in Zenica region .
